A warming trend is occurring in the Hudson Valley over the weekend

The warm-up is just around the corner and has already arrived in some areas.

Temperatures will be cold overnight in Orange, Putnam, Dutchess and Eastern Ulster counties, with a freeze warning in effect. The air warms up quickly in the Saturday morning hours, making the midday to afternoon hours feel wonderful. The bone-dry air that has prevailed for several days is causing temperatures to rise quickly.

The warming trend will continue through Sunday and beyond. Temperatures will rise to over 70°C in many places during the day. Head out for all sorts of fall activities.

Mother Nature is spoiling us with this upcoming weather. Temperatures will trend into the 70s through early next week and then into the 60s during the second half of next work week.

We won’t be expecting any rain showers any time soon. Maybe there will be a small chance for Thursday if a system comes along. But so far the chances are not rosy.

AUTUMN LEAVE COLORS:

  • Westchester: Low to moderate
  • Rockland: Moderate
  • Putnam: Moderate to high
  • Orange: Moderate to high
  • Dutchess: Moderate to high
  • Ulster: Up to the summit

TROPICS: There are two systems monitored by the National Hurricane Center.

Potential Tropical Cyclone 15 formed in the Western Caribbean on Friday afternoon. It is not far from Central America. The system will move westward, where it will strengthen into a tropical storm before making landfall in Belize on Saturday afternoon. The next name on the list is “Nadine”.

The second system is located near the US Virgin Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is currently disorganized but will try to become more organized over the weekend. It is moving west-northwest and has a 20 percent chance of developing over the next two to seven days.

ASTRO:

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3): Look in the western sky about 45 minutes to an hour after sunset. It is mostly visible to the naked eye, but looks better with binoculars or a telescope. Give your eyes time to adjust to the comet’s dim light. It will look like a “dirty snowball” with its tail pointing away from the horizon, and it will be near the planet Venus. The comet will be visible until October 21, where each night it will be slightly higher in the sky than the previous and appear slightly fainter.

Full Moon in October: Hunter’s Moon – The third of four supermoons this year (August, September, October, November) rose on Thursday evening. Although it has already peaked, it will still look very bright on Friday evening. Look into the southeastern sky after sunset. It will be brightest at 2:13 a.m. It’s called the Hunter’s Moon because the full moon in October usually signals hunters to begin hunting season and prepare for the coming colder weather.

10 DAY FORECAST:

OVERNIGHT: Clear and cold. But not as cold as the last few nights. For positions in Dutchess and Ulster counties, time ratios could drop into the mid-30s. Lows: low 30s to mid 40s.

SATURDAY: Sunny with a milder breeze. Highs: upper 60s to lower 70s. Lows: mid 40s.
