College football schedule, 2024 games: What to watch in Week 8, TV channels, Saturday kickoff times

For the second straight year, college football’s schedule will be dominated by seismic clashes between teams with national title aspirations as the second half of the season begins with a bang. The headliner is an SEC showdown between No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia as the Longhorns look to remain among the sport’s undefeated and cement their claim as the best team in the country.

Elsewhere in the SEC, No. 7 Alabama faces No. 11 Tennessee in an afternoon showdown between rivals looking to stay firmly in the College Football Playoff picture after each showed weaknesses in recent weeks. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Crimson Tide are the favorite to win on the road by 3.5 points. There is also a Top 25 matchup between Big Ten teams in the same time slot as No. 24 Michigan travels to No. 22 Illinois for the first game between ranked teams at Memorial Stadium since 2000.

That’s just a small taste of the action to come on another jam-packed college football Saturday as the separation of contenders from contenders continues en route to the first-ever 12-team CFP.

As Week 8 begins, here’s a viewer’s guide to help you navigate all of Saturday’s games.

Always east

The best games

No. 6 Miami at Louisville – Noon on ABC, fuboTV (Try it free): Miami was on the verge of two dramatic wins in its last two contests as the Hurricanes came from behind to 6-0 against star quarterback Cam Ward. But the trip to Louisville will be a challenge as the 4-2 Cardinals look to pull off a season-changing upset against the ACC’s top team.

Nebraska at No. 16 Indiana – Noon on Fox, fuboTV (Try for free): Will Indiana’s fairytale start continue or will Nebraska finally secure bowl eligibility for the first time since 2016? There is a lot at stake for both sides as the Hoosiers look to reach 7-0 and prove their legitimacy against their toughest opponent yet. The Cornhuskers could use a strong performance to generate some momentum heading into next week’s showdown at Ohio State. According to FanDuel, the Buckeyes currently have the second-best sports betting odds to win the national title.

No. 7 Alabama and No. 11 Tennessee – starting at 3:30 p.m ABC, fuboTV (Try it free): In the Crimson Tide’s last visit to Neyland Stadium in 2022, Tennessee ended a 15-game losing streak against Alabama in a 52-49 classic. Can the Volunteers pull off another program-defining victory over their rivals? Both teams have looked flawed in recent weeks and need wins to live up to their high standards.

No. 24 Michigan and No. 22 Illinois – 3:30 p.m. on CBS, CBSSports.com, CBS Sports App (free), Paramount+ with Showtime: Michigan is about to get its third starting quarterback of the season when 25-year-old Jack Tuttle gets the nod following the Wolverines’ bye week. Can he unleash a listless temporary offensive? Even if he succeeds, it will likely depend on Illinois being able to stop Michigan’s elite running back duo as the Illini try to pull off an upset win in the day’s only game between ranked Big Ten teams to get to 6:1.

No. 8 LSU at Arkansas – 7 p.m. on ESPN, fuboTV (Try it free): After an emotional home win over Ole Miss, LSU now faces a pitfall as the Tigers take on a gritty Arkansas team coming off a bye. It’s been a decade since the Razorbacks beat LSU at home, but the Hogs already have a home win against a top-10 team (Tennessee) and are craving another moment of glory.

No. 5 Georgia at No. 1 Texas – 7:30 p.m. on ABC, fuboTV (Try it free): Georgia offered glimpses of greatness but was inconsistent and lacked its usual dominance. Texas has crushed everything in its path so far, but has yet to be tested by a team anywhere close to the Bulldogs’ quarterback level. This is the ultimate opportunity for the Longhorns and coach Steve Sarkisian.
