West Spotlight: Who is the next big…?

Rivals National Recruiting Director Adam Gorney takes a look at five young prospects from the West who will be the next big thing in college football.
THIS SERIES – THE NEXT BIG…. Midwest | Southeast | Mid-South | Florida

DOUGLAS UTU: The next great offensive lineman to win the Outland Trophy

Douglas Utu

The Outland Trophy is awarded each season to college football’s best interior defender, and Utu will be in the running once he achieves it Oregon.

Bishop Gorman, a standout from Las Vegas (Nev.), is currently rated as a five-star offensive tackle and plays right tackle in high school. He could stay outside in college, but it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Utu moved inside and dominated inside as well.

An early one Tennessee With his commitment, Utu returned his promise to the Ducks at the end of September and gave the Big Ten powerhouse another elite player on offense who makes us look a little slimmer Penei Sewell.

Over the years, Utu has participated in numerous competitions Rivals Camp Series events and he saw each one brilliantly. Not much of a trash talker, Utu goes out, hits the defensive linemen with rocks and then moves on. This is what he should do at Oregon and why he is a five-star prospect.

JORDON DAVISON – Oregon’s next 1,000-yard runner

Jordan Davison

Aside from the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Oregon has had a 1,000-yard rusher in every season since 2016 Jordan James is on track to surpass that mark again this year.

Over the summer, it looked like the five-star running back from Santa Ana (Calif.) was headed to Mater Dei Ohio State But after his and the Buckeyes parted ways, Davison joined Oregon. He could be the next big player there to follow in his footsteps Royce Freeman, CJ Verdell, Travis Dye, Bucky Irving and now James.

Davison isn’t an explosive game-breaker, but there haven’t been many in high school lately who are as good in tight spaces, patient, smart, and then have the ability to gain extra yards when it seems like there’s nothing there were. Oregon’s prospect is on track to break 1,000 rushing yards this season with about 15 touchdowns.

JARON SAGAPOLUTELE – The next great Hawaiian left-handed QB

Matt Moreno | Rivals.com

Whether Ewa Beach (Hawaii) four-star quarterback Campbell sticks with his Cal Commit or transfer to Oregon, a West program gains an elite playmaker who follows the path of other Hawaiian left-handers Tua Tagovailoa And Dillon Gabriel.

Tagovailoa had a phenomenal career at Alabama and Gabriel gave numbers of UCF To Oklahoma and now to Oregon. Next up is Sagapolutele. The four-star prospect is bigger than both, has a live arm, phenomenal accuracy and was one of the Elite 11’s best quarterbacks this summer.

The Ducks have been committed to Cal since early July, recently made him an offer and are seriously pursuing him. The question now is whether Sagapolutele will book a trip to Eugene and if so, will the Ducks be able to flip him?

DIJON LEE – The next great Alabama DB from California

Five stars USC transfer Domani Jackson is tied for the team lead at Alabama with two interceptions and is tied for second in pass breakups, so he’s having a great season in Tuscaloosa. Five-star rookie Zabien Brown had the big interception against Georgia to seal the Crimson Tide’s win earlier this season.

Alabama has been heading west for some elite cornerbacks in recent years, and Lee could be next. From a physical standpoint, the four-star from Mission Viejo, Calif., is more impressive than Jackson and Brown, although he may not be as physical as the former Mater Dei stars from Santa Ana (Calif.).

In terms of length, playmaking ability, speed and versatility, Lee is special. Now the only question is whether Alabama can keep him, as Georgia is working to flip him and he visited Athens last weekend. Texas A&M I will bring him to campus in November, but that is still a long way off at the moment.

MADDEN FARAIMO – The next great Polynesian LB at Notre Dame

Madden Faraimo

USC, Notre Dame, Texas And Washington is the top four for Faraimo, but for months it has been believed that the Irish are well ahead in his recruitment. After visiting South Bend earlier this season, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if Faraimo had committed. Although it didn’t happen, it could only be a matter of time.

There’s so much that San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) JSerra Catholic standouts like about Notre Dame, from the academic and athletic challenge to the history of the linebackers there and more.

Much in the sense of Manti Te’o, Marist Liufau and now Kyngstonn Viliamu-AsaFaraimo could be the next star Polynesian linebacker in Irish lore. This fact hasn’t gone unnoticed by the tough four-star star Adonis.
