REI Cooperative opens in Prosper, Texas

Outdoor specialty retailer REI Co-op recently announced its series of store openings as part of the company’s efforts to support the active lifestyles of its members and outdoor communities, including one in Prosper, Texas.

A new 250,000-square-foot store will open in 2026 at The Gates of Prosper, at the intersection of East University Drive/Highway 380 and Preston Road. REI’s Prosper location will join four existing stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and 11 across Texas, including REI College Station, which is scheduled to open next month.

The company also announced plans to open stores in six additional communities next spring and summer, including the California cities of Carlsbad, Chico and Elk Grove, as well as Amherst, New York; Durango, Colo.; and Lynnwood, Washington. Additional deals for 2026 will be announced once leases are finalized.

“Our store associates are the heart of the cooperative and welcome everyone to experience our product expertise, resources and inspiration to support an active lifestyle,” said Mary-Farrell Tarbox, REI vice president of stores, in an official statement. “Cities that will have new stores represent communities that serve as gateways to some of the most incredible natural places in the country and where our members currently live, or destinations where they enjoy playing outside.”

Each new REI store offers a diverse selection of apparel and equipment for activities such as camping, hiking, cycling, running, fitness, climbing and more. Each location will also feature a full-service bike shop staffed by certified mechanics who can tune and repair mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrids and e-bikes.

As the largest consumer cooperative in the country, REI welcomes everyone to shop. But co-op members enjoy a number of benefits, including free standard shipping within the United States, discounts on bike and snow shop services, member vouchers, a trade-in program for used equipment, an annual membership bonus of 10% cash back on eligible purchases, an extended one-year satisfaction guarantee, and more. When you become a member, you join a community dedicated to promoting outdoor living.

For each new membership purchased, the cooperative donates $5 to the REI Cooperative Action Fund, which supports nonprofits nationwide to create a more equitable outdoor experience for all and research the effects of nature on health. Additionally, the REI Fund invests in local nonprofits at every store grand opening.
