Honda is recalling 720,000 Civics, Accords and CR-Vs due to possible fuel leaks

If you drive a newer Accord, Civic, or CR-V model, you may need to take your car to the repair shop for an inspection. On Tuesday, Honda announced a voluntary recall of approximately 720,000 2023-2025 Honda vehicles sold in the U.S. due to a defective high-pressure fuel pump – a problem that could lead to fuel leaks and an increased risk of fire.

According to Honda, it is possible for cracks to form within the faulty fuel pump. These cracks can grow to the point where fuel will leak when the car is running, leading to an increased risk of fire and a higher risk of accident or injury. (However, at the time of announcing the recall, Honda has no confirmed reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.)

The recalled vehicles are the 2023-2024 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, the 2025 Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Sedan Hybrid, and the 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid. It’s worth noting that the Civic and CR-V were already part of a recall earlier this month that affected 1.7 million Honda vehicles. This recall involved a steering gear worm wheel; A failure of this part would result in significantly increased steering effort.

Honda will contact registered owners of all affected models by mail in December to recall defective fuel pumps. Owners are encouraged to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer for a free inspection. If the high pressure fuel pump is found to be defective, the dealer will replace the part free of charge. Honda strongly recommends owners make an appointment with their dealer and bring their car in for an inspection as soon as they receive the notification.

However, if you have a vehicle that may be affected by this recall and do not want to wait for official notification, you can see if your vehicle is included at www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234 – 2138.
