Georgia Bulldogs mascot Uga will not travel to Austin for the Texas Longhorns game

Anyone hoping for a repeat of what happened at Uga’s last meeting with Bevo will be sorely disappointed. The last time the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs competed was in 2019 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and before the game the mascots stole the show.

In one of the biggest matchups of the year, only one of the famous live mascots will be on hand to take part in all the festivities, including the ESPN College Gameday featuring celebrity guest picker, the No. 1 golfer in the world and Texas ex-Scottie Scheffler.

Since UGA XI is only two years old this year, he will not make the trip from his home in Savannah, Georgia to Austin. Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald was first to report the news, explaining that the journey was simply too far for the young dog and his handler.

His handler and owner, Charles Seiler, told Weiszer that the trip was difficult not only for the dog, but for Seiler as well. In order for Seiler to travel with UGA, he first had to make the five-hour drive from Savannah to Athens and then fly to Austin with the Georgia football team.

Seiler told Weiszer that it was all just too much. Seiler, now 64, also said his wife is no longer as supportive of his long travel days with UGA because he tires more quickly due to age. A commercial flight is not an option as UGA would have to fly in the cargo hold, which could endanger the beloved bulldog.

He wouldn’t have a problem with UGA meeting Bevo, the famed Texas Longhorn, but doesn’t want the trip to be a burden on him or the young dog.

“My dog grew up on a cotton farm in Moultrie, Georgia, and they have longhorn steers,” Seiler told Weiszer. “They have a big fence between the bulldogs and the steers, and my breeder will get week-old bread and throw it out along the fence line, and the bulldogs run over and try to eat as much as they can, and the cows sit there and eat as much as possible.” as they want. My dogs are used to cows.
