Atlanta, Georgia– The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc. have released the midseason watch list for the 2024 Dodd Trophy presented by PNC Bank. This year’s list features 20 of the top college football coaches in the country, representing every Power Four conference, as well as the AAC and one independent coach. Navy head coach Brian Newberry is one of these 20 trainers.

Administered by Peach Bowl, Inc. and presented by PNC Bank, the Dodd Trophy, college football’s most coveted national coaching award, recognizes the head coach of a team that achieves success on the gridiron while emphasizing the importance of Science, Leadership and Integritythe three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s coaching philosophy.

The watch list was created through a selection process by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc., taking into account each program’s graduation rate, graduation success rate (GSR), and commitment to community service and charity the 2024 season and Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Newberry has given the Mids a 5-0 start and is ranked 25th on the season Associated Press Opinion poll. Navy will host Charlotte on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., starting 6-0 for the first time since 1979 and seventh time ever.

A win on Saturday would make Navy Bowl eligible for play for the first time since 2019. Navy was selected at No. 11Th is one of five undefeated teams in the 14-team AAC preseason poll in the AAC conference race, which includes Saturday’s opponent, Charlotte. Navy is one of just 11 undefeated teams in the FBS.


Saturday marks the first time Navy plays at home as an AP Top 25 team since Oct. 22, 2016, as a no. 24 Navy defeated Memphis 42-28.


Navy earned a 34-7 victory over Air Force, its first win over the Falcons since 2019 and its first in Colorado Springs since 2012. The 34 points scored are the second-most points Navy has ever scored in Colorado Springs , and the 7 points allowed are the fewest. Navy’s 27-point victory was the largest in the series since 1978, when the Mids won 37-8 in Colorado Springs, and the fourth-largest of all time.
