Initial benchmarks of the iPad mini 7 show improved RAM and more

Apple on Tuesday announced a new iPad mini equipped with the A17 Pro chip and supporting Apple Intelligence features. The first new iPad Mini orders are expected to reach customers next week, but now the first benchmarks have appeared on Geekbench. These results confirm that the latest iPad mini has 8GB of RAM and give us a glimpse into the performance of the integrated A17 Pro chip inside.

It should come as no surprise that the new iPad mini has 8 GB of RAM. The device features support for Apple Intelligence, and Apple has previously stated that 8GB of RAM is the basis for this support. It’s a notable upgrade over the previous generation iPad mini 6, which featured 4GB of RAM.

The new iPad mini is powered by the A17 Pro chip, the same chip that powers the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the difference is that the iPad mini’s A17 Pro chip has a 5-core GPU, while the iPhone 15 Pro’s version of the chip has a 6-core GPU.

These Geekbench results, first discovered by MySmartPriceLet’s take a first look at the performance implications of this difference.

The iPad mini with the A17 Pro achieved around 2800 points in the single-core GeekBench test and around 6500 points in the multi-core test. For comparison: The previous iPad mini with A15 Bionic achieved around 2,100 points in the single-core test and 5,400 points in the multi-core test.

For further comparison: The iPhone 15 Pro typically achieves around 2,900 points in the single-core test and 7,200 points in the multi-core test.

Here’s how the three devices compare in terms of GPU benchmarking:

  • iPad mini 7: 25,600
  • iPad mini 6: 20,200
  • iPhone 15 Pro: 20,700

The new iPad mini (A17 Pro) is available to order now and the first pre-orders will arrive next Wednesday, October 23rd.
