Is the game worth playing after closed beta testing?

Since FragPunk debuted with its first trailer, the excitement has been constant, and how much it has increased in this regard since the launch of the closed beta needs no explanation. This game brings a new twist to the established 5v5 hero shooter format, combining tactical and arcade shooter elements. It’s going to be one hell of a standalone title in the world of casual shooters.

Tactics meets arcade fun

FragPunk balances strategy with fast-paced action. On the surface it’s a 5v5 hero shooter, but what sets the game apart is the introduction of rotating shard cards – game changers that optimize mechanics in real time. Such cards come with cool modifiers, such as increased headshot damage, explosive bullets, or even map changes, creating possibilities that no one foresaw.

The core mode, Shard Clash, is your classic attack versus defense setup (like Valorant or CS2), where one team plants a bomb and the other team tries to stop it. However, when the shard cards are in play, this mode feels fresh, adding new layers of strategy each round.

Eye-catching images

One of FragPunk’s most striking features is its strikingly colorful aesthetic. The game stands out among other shooters whose toned-down colors seem unusually muted in comparison, but doesn’t sacrifice clarity in the most hectic moments for fun and flashiness. Small particle effects on basic actions like reloading and placing the converter just add a touch of flair without being distracting.

From an artistic standpoint it’s similar to Across the Spider-Verse, it’s energetic and animated. But no matter how wild things get, it’s always clear what’s happening on the screen.

Game modes to suit your mood

Of course, FragPunk has a variety of modes beyond Shard Clash, and a prime example of this is Team Deathmatch. It’s a classic mode that’s now popular, but perfect for those who want to get into the action quickly and easily.

Of course, there will be more game modes in the near future, including Duel Master, which has yet to be released. This should bring an even more diverse experience: direct 1-on-1 combat down to the last remaining person. To get started, everyone wants to have the practice mode where you can team up with others or take on bots for practice before real games.

Fast, intense and entertaining matches

Due to the fast time-to-kill (TTK) and best-of-seven format, no fragging is allowed during long, drawn-out matches. FragPunk’s matches waste no time: fast-paced action and bold, aggressive tactics are encouraged.

Its fast-paced gameplay, variety of characters, and unique visual style make it refreshing compared to the other shooters competing hard for the e-sports scene. While that may not be the intention, that’s okay because FragPunk seems to be made for those who just want to have fun. If it can maintain its healthy player base and continue to deliver what makes it great, FragPunk will easily be the game of choice for anyone who just wants to sit down and play a casual, action-packed shooter.

Room for improvement

Despite FragPunk’s exciting gameplay and stylish design, two main problems have emerged so far. The biggest concern is the speed of movement. While the weapon animations, music, and menus are all fast and energetic, the actual movement feels far too slow in comparison. The default speed seems sluggish, especially in such a dynamic game. The speed boost card appears to be the standard speed or maybe even slightly faster. A simple change in movement speed could take gameplay to the next level and make it much smoother and more enjoyable.

The second, albeit minor, problem is the menu system. Although it fits well with the general art style, the menus seem a bit cluttered. Navigating the options, especially when customizing weapons or checking settings, can be a bit confusing with so much going on. Although it’s only been out for a short time, a slight tweak to the interface could make it run a lot smoother for players.

Although it’s still in closed beta, FragPunk already feels like a solid and polished game and is definitely worth a try. With its amazing mechanics and gameplay and addressing current issues through player feedback, Fragpunk can easily stand out among the other FPS games on the market.
