There will be no Uga vs. Bevo second round in Georgian football’s top 5 match on Saturday night in Texas.

The Bulldogs’ live mascot, Uga XI, remains in Savannah, his handler and owner Charles Seiler told the Athens Banner-Herald Friday morning.

“No dog,” said Seiler. “This dog is only two and two months old. He hasn’t been on a plane or even a bus yet. The journey is simply too far for us.”

Savannah and Austin are approximately 1,100 miles apart.

Seiler said he had to drive five hours to Athens to get on a plane and fly with Georgia football.

“The worst part is coming back because I have to jump in the car and drive home from Athens when the sun comes up,” Seiler said. “That was fine when I was a younger man, but now I’m 64. My wife tells me you can’t do it alone. I feel like I’m going to have trouble getting to those outside plays. We haven’t been to Texas A&M yet because we just haven’t had their home game yet.”

Austin-born American Statesman photographer Nick Wagner injured his back in the incident.

Seiler traveled with Uga to Indianapolis for the national championship game to conclude the 2021 season. He drove Uga to the Alabama game this year and returned to Savannah at 7:30 a.m

“With these additional games and additional playoff games, the away game is becoming more and more difficult for us,” Seiler said.

Seiler said he couldn’t fly with Uga on a commercial flight from Savannah because he would have to walk underneath the way other pets are transported.

“That’s kind of a no-go,” he said.

Seiler said it would be difficult to get around with Uga if he took a private plane once he landed, and it is now more difficult to walk the dog outside of hotels.

Seiler said he has been in contact with Ricky Brennes, executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association, which serves Bevo, about the trip.

Seiler said Uga would not avoid another meeting with Bevo.

“My dog grew up on a cotton farm in Moultrie, Georgia, and they have longhorn steers,” Seiler said. “They have a big fence between the bulldogs and the steers, and my breeder will get week-old bread and throw it out along the fence line, and the bulldogs run over and try to eat as much as they can, and the cows eat like that as much as possible.” as they want. My dogs are used to cows.
