A two-time cancer survivor is helping others

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And a survivor in our neighborhood is now helping others on their journey.

I went to Grand Ledge to learn more about this mission and the power it holds.

“It was very difficult to hear this diagnosis,” said breast cancer survivor Sabrina Newton.

A diagnosis in 2015 that did not let Sabrina Newton down.

“I overcame a cancer diagnosis because of my faith-filled family, friends and incredible medical staff,” said breast cancer survivor Sabrina Newton.

And then, in 2018, she did it again.

“I fight every step of the way,” said breast cancer survivor Sabrina Newton.

Now, in 2024. Newton has made it his mission to help others in their struggles.

She created “Fuel the Cure” gas cards to help those battling cancer keep their appointments without worrying about the price of gas.

“Knowing the need for fuel and how much stress you can endure through the cancer process,” said breast cancer survivor Sabrina Newton.

Newton says she started the gas cards last year to show support for others going through a difficult process. However, Newton sometimes thinks about her past when she is diagnosed, but she doesn’t let that dampen her joy of life

“Don’t get me wrong, I have moments of crying and doubting myself, but then why does that help?” said breast cancer survivor Sabrina Newton.
