The National Basketball Association (NBA) has introduced a number of new artificial intelligence features in its NBA app, powered by Microsoft Azure.

One of the new tools, NBA Insights, uses AI to identify key narratives, player performances and notable milestones to provide fans with ongoing text-based updates to better contextualize what’s happening on the court.

The app also uses generative AI to localize content and provide game recaps in French, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as translations for select live games.

Throughout the basketball season, NBA app content also includes the Dunk Score, a real-time AI-calculated score for in-game dunks based on the player’s jump distance, style and power.

“Together, we are redefining the fan experience for an unforgettable season,” said Silvia Candiani, vice president of telecommunications and media at Microsoft, in an update on LinkedIn.
