Lucas Paqueta makes new statement on FA betting investigation

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has issued a strong statement expressing his frustration at the leak of “misleading and inaccurate” information about the ongoing FA investigation into his alleged involvement in suspicious betting activity.

Paqueta releases statement on betting allegations

Lucas Paqueta denies the allegations against him and insists that the continued publication of false information prevents him from receiving a fair hearing.

“I am frustrated and angered by reading misleading and inaccurate press articles recently published in England and Brazil claiming to reveal information about my case,” the Brazil international said in a statement posted on social media.

“Some of this information is completely false and appears to undermine my position.”

He also expressed frustration over the leak of misleading information that likely came from someone familiar with the case.

“These articles clearly come from a person familiar with the case,” he said. “The FA proceedings are confidential and are extremely serious for me and my family.

“The continued leaking and publication of inaccurate information in the press now jeopardizes my chance of a fair hearing.”

Paquetá has instructed his lawyers to write to the FA demanding a thorough investigation into how confidential details of the case were leaked.

Paqueta’s future is still uncertain

The FA accuses Paqueta of being involved in illegal betting activities and deliberately subjecting himself to yellow cards in order to manipulate market conditions.

The investigation, believed to have been launched by online gambling company Betway, West Ham’s shirt sponsor, has led to allegations that Paqueta’s family members were also involved in suspicious betting patterns.

Reports from Brazil claim Paqueta’s uncle and cousin have admitted paying former Real Betis striker Luiz Henrique over £5,000 after Henrique received two suspicious yellow cards.

While Spanish authorities have not taken any disciplinary action against Henrique, the FA is now investigating the matter as part of its investigation into Paqueta.

The FA is reportedly seeking a lifetime ban against Paqueta – a move that would have significant consequences for both the player and his club. With the disciplinary hearing not yet scheduled, Paqueta’s future in English football remains uncertain.
