Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is expected to make his first start Sunday night

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Russell Wilson is expected to make his first start as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend when the team takes on the Jets on Sunday Night Football.

The experienced quarterback started the season with a calf injurybut he is now healthy and ready to go.

Wilson has been fully participating in training since the beginning of last week Head coach Mike Tomlin wanted him to shake off the rust, and that’s where we are nowso Wilson will get his chance.

Wilson says he’s looking forward to being a starter in the NFL for the first time since last Christmas Eve, when he was a member of the Denver Broncos.

“It’s the first game of the year for me,” Wilson said. “You know, I was lucky enough to be at a lot of first games. Of course the self-confidence is there. Of course it’s just fun to be out there with the guys, that’s the fun part of this game, just playing the game that you love and do.” the physical part, hopefully getting into the end zone and scoring a lot of touchdowns .

“I came here for one reason: to win the Super Bowl,” Wilson added. “I think we have that chance. But we have to do the work.

Justin Fields started the first six games of the season at quarterback and scored ten touchdowns on offense. He helped lead the team to a 4-2 record.

Fields has thrown just one interception in those six games, but has made some mistakes in critical moments and the offense has been mostly inconsistent, averaging 20 points per game — all reasons the Steelers are willing to make a change at quarterback.

“I don’t think I played well enough, if I’m honest with you,” Fields said. “If I’m honest with myself, I think if I had played well enough, I don’t think there would be any question about who should play and who shouldn’t. At the end of the day we have a… Of course I’m happy about it. There are areas where I could be better and I will continue to work on that and continue to improve.”

Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said he liked what he saw from Fields in his first six games.

“It’s never as bad as you think, and sometimes you think you played well and then you come back and realize you got away with a few things,” Smith said. “I think that’s why you love working with Justin. Because this is real and not just some cliche that some quarterback guru or someone on the side told him. I mean, a lot of these guys are hard on themselves and there’s so much of that. “Obviously it’s the physical ability, otherwise we wouldn’t be at this level, but for me it’s the mental component that sets the greats apart from the other starters different in this league, and that’s what he strives for.

Pittsburgh Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw said he thinks so Justin Fields should remain the starting quarterback opposite Russell Wilson.

A new offensive weapon for Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are coming to town with a new wide receiver on the roster. Davante Adams is expected to play for the Jets on Sunday night.

Adams struggled with a hamstring injury but is now healthy after moving to New York.

Rodgers and Adams played together in Green Bay and have a good relationship, so it shouldn’t take long for Adams to adjust to the Jets.

“I assume I’m on the same page,” Rodgers said. “I hope it works for us. You know, he’s been out for a few weeks with an injury and we haven’t played together since 2021, but we have a lot of memories to fall back on. He has an incredible memory. We only talked about and remembered certain pieces in the eight years we played together. We could literally watch a highlight clip and both of us knew not only the game, but the game and the situation and the thoughts behind it, and maybe a conversation about it happened, so that’s a gift.

Kick-off on Sunday evening at Acrisure Stadium is scheduled for 8:20 p.m
