Waymo Offers Free Credits to Riders Traveling to Select Bay Area Transit Stations: Here’s How Much You Can Get – Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL)

Alphabet Inc. GOOG GOOGL subsidiary Waymo is offering a $3 credit to riders who take an autonomous ride to select transit stations in San Francisco and the Peninsula to promote public transit, the company said Thursday.

What happened: Waymo will credit drivers $3 when they take an autonomous ride to or from eligible transit stations in the Bay Area. These credits can be used for future trips.

The program began on October 17th and runs until November 15th. According to a statement from Waymo, the credits can be used until December 31st.

“By offering on-demand electric rides and improving access to public transportation, Waymo One is making everyday travel more sustainable and convenient,” he said Adam LenzHead of Sustainability and Environment at Waymo.

Why it matters: Waymo currently operates a fleet of fully electric vehicles that have been customized to enable autonomous driving. The company delivers over 100,000 paid autonomous rides to the public each week, the company said Thursday.

Automotive research company S&P Global Mobility announced in September that it believed Waymo was the leader in autonomous vehicles in the United States

In July, Alphabet committed to a new $5 billion multi-year investment in Waymo to help the company “continue to build the world’s leading autonomous driving technology company.”
