The 2025 Color Capsule from Sherwin-Williams

The 2025 Color Capsule from Sherwin-Williams

Sherwin-Williams just announced its color of the year — but with a twist. The company introduced its first color capsule of the year, which contains nine different shades.

“The one common theme that unites this year’s color capsule is vintage with a twist,” says Sue Wadden, head of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “The capsule feels very eclectic and is reminiscent of the 1970s, which is making a comeback in home and design, but we added a few modern tones to keep it feeling fresh and cheerful,” she tells me.

Additionally, Wadden says the capsule is unexpected and this fresh approach includes an entire capsule collection rather than focusing on a single color like Sherwin-Williams typically does each year.

“What I like most about the capsule collection is that there is something for everyone – it presents a diverse range of shades including eclectic, classic, feminine, warm and cool tones, but still feels balanced.”

Wadden walked me through the 9 colors of the Color Capsule of the Year.

Bosc pear

According to Wadden, Bosc Pear SW 6390 is a cinnamon-dusted gold shade that evokes luxurious organic tones reminiscent of bygone eras. “For homeowners looking for a hue to add to an accent wall, I recommend a very sophisticated gold/yellow tone that creates bold accents in the most impressive way.”

Purple plaster

According to Wadden, Mauve Finery SW 6282 is versatile enough to be used as a wall color or accent color and provides a refreshing, botanical vibe. “It’s a great choice to add to a room where you want a unique, colorful yet gentle look, but due to this color’s calming properties, it looks particularly great in bathrooms to create a spa-like environment. “

clove

“Clove SW 9605 borders on black and is an inviting brown that comforts and calms,” says Wadden, noting that she likes the idea of painting all four walls this dark shade. “Although it is a dark and bold color, it offers the perfect balance between elegance and comfort.”

Grounded

According to Wadden, Grounded SW 6089 is a calming and versatile, intriguing brown that provides a sophisticated earth tone.

Sun bleached

“Situated somewhere between warm and cool, Sunbleached SW 9585 is a light neutral that will complement virtually any design,” explains Wadden.

Chartreuse

“Chartreuse SW 0073, a bright yellow-green, is versatile enough to be versatile and bright, as well as a cheerful color that is both historical and relevant,” says Wadden.

White snow

“White Snow SW 9541’s brilliant light reflectance value (90) is beautiful and pure,” says Wadden, noting that it is popular with design professionals looking to achieve a bright and airy result.

Rain cloud

According to Wadden, Rain Cloud SW 9639 is both rustic and sophisticated, and is a stormy and deep gray-blue hue that combines classic and modern design.

Malabar

“Soft and inviting, Malabar SW 9110 is a neutral sandy beige that pairs well with other warm tones,” Wadden says.

Color combinations

Wadden tells me that one of her favorite color combinations in the capsule is combining browns with whites, like grounded and sunbleached, to create a combination that feels elegant yet restful.

Another combination she loves is Rain Cloud and Chartreuse. “This combination may seem strange since we don’t usually mix blue and yellow together, but these two colors give a room a really fresh, light and bright feel,” she says.
