Randall County Inmate Dies in Jail Cell, Texas Ranges Investigation

The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Randall County inmate.

In response to questions from ABC7 NewsThe Randall County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Bryan Austin Fields was found unresponsive in his cell around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“Correctional officers immediately initiated life-saving measures,” said Sgt. Hillary Garcia. “Emergency medical services arrived shortly afterwards…Despite their efforts, Fields was pronounced dead.”

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Fields was booked into prison on March 16, 2023 for stalking.

According to court documents, Fields repeatedly engaged in “obscene communication” with a woman in February 2023.

Additional charges were filed in July 2023, including assault on a public servant and two counts of harassment by a person in a correctional/detention/civil detention facility.

He is accused of having his saliva “come into contact” with two correctional officers.

The charge of assault on a public servant was dismissed on August 31, 2023.
