Men’s tennis advances to the main round of the ITA Texas Regionals with three spots

Waco, Texas – Texas Men’s Tennis advanced three singles players into the main draw of the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Thursday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.

Freshmen Calvin Wang, Evan Burnett And Rahul Sachdev All advanced from qualifying, with Wang securing two wins, while Burnett and Sachdev both started with a bye and went on to take a win.

Wang defeated Joshua Mandelbaum of Rice 7-6 (5), 6-4 earlier in the day and then beat 9-16 seed Martin Delnido of Abilene Christian 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. Burnett then defeated Haruki Omori-Cowie of Lamar 6-0, 6-4, while Sachdev defeated Alejandro Verdasco of Abilene Christian 6-1, 6-4.

Sachdev begins day two at 10 a.m. CT against No. 17 seed JC Roddick of Texas A&M, while Wang faces Leon Nickel of Lamar at 12:45 p.m. CT and Burnett faces Abdulraheem Isa Prairie View A&M at 1:15 p.m meets CT.

Three more Longhorns will start in the main draw Friday, including the No. 29 junior seed Jonah Braswell against Filip Apltauer of TCU, sophomore No. 124 Lucas Brown vs. SMU’s Maks Silagy at 12 p.m. CT and freshman Timo Legout against Texas Tech’s Takeyasu Sekiguchi at 1:30 p.m. CT.

The doubles matches also begin on Friday with the draw for the entire tournament. The results can be found here in the tournament hub. There will be no live stats, but there will be a live video of the top six finishes, which can be found here.
