Mayor Woodfin responds to mass shooting arrest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin says he’s happy to see Damien McDaniel behind bars and even calls him brash.

The 22-year-old is accused of killing four people and shooting 17 in Five Points South in September.

Mayor Woodfin names the Birmingham Police Department, other law enforcement agencies and your tips for making an arrest.

Not only is McDaniel charged in the deadly mass shooting, he, Ny’Quan Lollar, Larry Rollins and Demarco Beck are also accused of killing another man less than 24 hours later, Jamarcus McIntyre, in East Lake Township on 81st Place was shot south.

According to investigators, McDaniel claimed the lives of six people in four days.

“McDaniel’s behavior is extremely brazen. Here we have a person in Fairfield who lives in Fairfield coming to our town and committing these heinous acts. We wanted quick justice. We needed swift justice, and when I say “we” I mean the four people killed and the 17 injured who will survive, but their new normal is not normal. This is a person who was hell-bent on literally hurting people and taking lives. Oh, he had to be far away from our streets,” Woodfin said.

Mayor Woodfin said the investigation is ongoing and they are still asking anyone with information about the Five Points shooting to call Crime Stoppers or Birmingham police.
