Mark Walhberg wants California film studios to follow his move to Nevada

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A major push to bring major film studios to Nevada. The public face of these efforts is famous. Mark Wahlberg now lives in Nevada and is trying to get Hollywood to move here too. On Thursday evening, Wahlberg sat down with the Nevada Independent to discuss making that goal a reality.

“I know what we can do here… It’s not a question of if, but when,” Wahlberg claimed.

The current Las Vegas resident takes the stage to tell his own story during Indyfest, sharing how the Nevada chapter of his life began when Wahlberg traded the Hollywood spotlight for the bright lights of the Vegas Strip a few years ago.

“We knew that raising children in LA was very problematic,” Wahlberg explained.

“Fifteen minutes away is such a beautiful, peaceful community that I found to be my happy place,” said Wahlberg, describing his Summerlin community.

Wahlberg is now trying to rewrite the script for California’s long-standing film industry. If his efforts prove successful, Hollywood 2.0 would be located here.

“I work with Warner Brothers, I work with Sony, I work with Netflix, I work with Disney,” Wahlberg explained.

“Are you going to bring them all here?” asked host Jon Ralston.

“I think ultimately that would be the goal. “They all used to shoot movies right there in LA, and people don’t do that anymore,” Wahlberg revealed.

Last May, Wahlberg testified before Nevada lawmakers about his vision to bring big screen productions to the Silver State.

“As Vegas grows and thrives with sports, entertainment and everything else, it makes perfect sense… I think the commitment that we have from Sony, people like Warner Brothers coming to the table… That’s not something I’m there for.” throw out. If it works, it’s not so great for the next one. “You know I’m here, I’m ready to go,” Wahlberg promised.

Wahlberg says he is in the process of making a film in London that could have been made here.

Wahlberg also shared that he has spoken several times with Gov. Joe Lombardo about how to turn his vision into reality. Ultimately, the biggest piece of the puzzle in luring studios: film tax credits is something that is expected to be introduced in the Legislature next year.
