CHESTERTON, Ind. – South Shore Line is pleased to announce that the new Hammond Gateway Station will open and be operational for rail service beginning Friday, October 18, 2024.

Starting October 18, passengers who previously used Hammond Station will be able to board and disembark all South Shore Line trains at Hammond Gateway, 4530 Sheffield Ave. Please see the attached map for clarity.

“Starting October 18, the former Hammond Station at 4531 Hohman Ave. permanently closed,” said Amber Kettring, South Shore Line’s Customer Service & Communications Manager. “In the future, the Hammond Station parking lot on Hohman Ave. used as overflow parking for the Hammond Gateway Station. Updates will be sent as construction progresses on the West Lake Corridor project.”

“We greatly appreciate our passengers’ patience and cooperation during this phase of the West Lake project,” said Michael Noland, president of South Shore Line. “With the opening of Hammond Gateway, we have reached a milestone in this project and are a big step closer to opening the entire line extension, which will be called the South Shore Line Monon Corridor when completed.”

The South Shore Line is a Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) commuter rail line between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
