Money Minute: Home Discounts

We’re nearing the end of the year and you may be leaving money on the table if you need renovations to your home.

If you’ve been waiting to break ground on a home improvement project, now is the time to do it before the end of the year.

“Consider which energy-efficient product makes sense for your home,” said Steven Warren, an accountant at Schechter Dokken Kanter.

If you need an electric water heater, you can save around $400 with a rebate from Xcel Energy. A $600 window tax credit is yours and will be covered by irs.Gov.

Or buy a lawn mower for next season and get $75 off Xcel.

There’s also a combo rebate on mini-split heat pumps – $2,000 from Xcel and up to $2,000 in federal HVAC tax credits.

Warren mentions that “there is a website for Energy Star” where you can also check for rebates.

If you don’t know what your home needs, you can always hire an energy auditor to look at how your home could be more efficient. Not only will you get these discounts, but you’ll also likely save money on your utility bills.
