Man accused of shooting at police officers sentenced to 13 years in prison without parole

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A man accused of shooting at police in Shawnee Park in 2022 has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.

Herbert Lee pleaded guilty on Thursday to two counts of 20 felony charges against him. Police arrested him in July 2022 when officers spotted him at the Dirt Bowl in Shawnee Park.

Lee had several warrants for his arrest and was running from the police. As he ran, he began shooting at the officers, hitting one of them in his body armor.

Lee was also convicted of, among other things, intentionally hitting a former girlfriend’s car and cashing checks from his dead father’s account.

In another case, Lee admitted to stealing a handgun and then fleeing from officers at Mall St. Matthews.

Against this background, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. He is not eligible for probation or parole under the Safer Kentucky Act.
