Surveillance video shows a frantic father picking up his 4-year-old as she jumps onto a table to escape a coyote chasing her in their backyard.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Dramatic home surveillance video shows the moment a brave coyote chased a little girl through her own Oregon backyard in broad daylight.

Charlie Schmidt was working in his yard on Oct. 12 while his children and a neighbor played outside. Surveillance footage shows his four-year-old daughter suddenly running across the yard and calmly saying, “Dad, there’s a coyote,” before jumping onto a child’s picnic table to escape him.

Her distraught father shouted a few curse words as he ran to pick up his daughter and get everyone inside.

It’s not unusual to see coyotes in her neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, Schmidt told KGW, but it’s “a little unusual” to see someone chasing children.

Luckily no one was injured.
