Georgia-Texas: Ten former transfers who will be the focus

This week’s “Game of the Year” is TexasGeorgia. The stars will be out and there will certainly be big television ratings. Celebrities and outstanding recruits hang out on the sidelines. On the pitch, former transfers will be the focus.
Here are 10 to keep an eye on this weekend in Austin.

Away: Oregon State To Texas

Bolden is an explosive return man who is also a proven playmaker as a receiver. He spent the first four years of his college career at Oregon State and in his final two seasons with the Beavers, Bolden amassed 77 catches, 1,048 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches.

With Texas This year, Bolden is the starting punt returner and is tied for the 10th-most punt return yards in the Power Four. As a receiver, Bolden caught 10 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.


Away: Alabama To Texas

The Longhorns needed to reload at receiver after last season, and adding Bond to the offense was a big win. The Georgia native signed with Alabama In the 2022 class, he showed immediate promise as a freshman, recording 17 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown.

Bond improved those numbers as a sophomore, becoming the Crimson Tide’s No. 1 receiver in targets and catches. Now at Texas, Bond is once again the team leader in targets and receiving yards and is tied for the lead in catches and touchdown receptions.


Away: Florida To Georgia

At FloridaEtienne was the workhorse the Gators relied on. While playing for Florida, he ran for more than 1,400 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. Etienne’s transfer to Georgia last offseason didn’t go entirely according to plan. Off-field problems forced him to sit out the first game of the season, and he has never rushed for more than 100 yards in a game for the Dawgs.


Away: Ohio State To Texas

Ewers is known to have moved up a class to enroll Ohio State a year earlier, but he was only there a few months before moving back to Texas after the 2021 season.

Now in his third season as the Longhorns’ starter, Ewers has led Texas to the College Football Playoff once and positioned himself as a legitimate Heisman contender and potential first overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.


Away: Houston To Texas

Golden is a Texas native who was apparently destined to stay in the Lone Star State. He committed as a high school prospect TCU before you browse and sign Houston in the class of 2022. Golden was a key player for Houston, recording 77 catches, 1,003 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns in two seasons.

That also carried over to the Texas offense, where he fit in very well. So far this season, Golden has the second-most targets and catches of any Longhorn receiver. He is also tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns.


Away: Vanderbilt To Georgia

Vanderbilt Humphreys signed as part of his 2023 class and immediately paid dividends in Nashville. He finished his freshman season with 21 catches for 437 yards and four touchdowns. Humphreys then decided to transfer to Georgia, but only has six catches on seven targets.


Away: Missouri To Georgia

Lovett can confidently call himself Georgia’s No. 1 receiver. In his second season with the Bulldogs, Lovett leads the team in targets and catches while ranking second in receiving yards. Georgia still needs him to increase his productivity as they look for more explosiveness in their passing game.


Away: UTSA To Texas

Moore had a lot of success at UTSAwho was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, but transferred to Texas before this season. He was right in the starting line-up and his influence was particularly felt in the biggest games of the season.

Of the nine quarterback pressures that PFF attributes to Moore, eight came in the Michigan And Oklahoma games. Even though he doesn’t exactly fill the stat sheet, Moore was a very important part of the Texas defense.


Away: Clemson To Texas

Mukuba’s impact in the Texas secondary has been impressive. After three years at Clemsonthe Austin native has returned home and is in the midst of his most productive collegiate season.

With starts in five of the six games this season, Mukuba has 18 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups, according to PFF. He currently has the third-highest coverage grade on PFF among Texas defensive backs with more than 15 coverage snaps.


Away: Alabama To Texas

Like Isaiah Bond, Niblack left Tuscaloosa for Austin after last season. The tight end hasn’t seen the field as much as he did last year for the Crimson Tide. A season ago, Niblack had 20 catches for 327 yards and four touchdown catches. His only goal this season was a 7-yard gain. But the physical ability Niblack brings to the field is what catches the attention of defenses.
