Sac State opens vote center and ballot box for November general election

Sacramento State is doing its part to ensure its campus community and the public can fully participate in the 2024 general election.

The university will once again be the site of a vote center where voters can register to vote, complete and submit their ballot, and request a replacement ballot if the ballot mailed to them is lost or damaged.

The center at Modoc Hall will be open three days before the election and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th. All registered voters in Sacramento County may vote or drop off their completed ballot at the vote center.

The voting center will be open Saturday, November 2nd from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday and Monday, November 3rd-4th from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, November 5th. November, open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“Voting this year is critically important, not only for the presidential election, but also for the California ballot initiatives that affect all of us as California citizens.” – Elisa Trimboli, Sac State Anchor University Partnership Manager

Sac State will also have an absentee ballot drop box at the campus Welcome Center, near the J Street campus entrance. It is accessible during business hours until Election Day.

“It is my sincere hope that every eligible member of the Hornet family registers to vote and participate in this year’s election,” said Sac State President Luke Wood.

The deadline for registering to vote online or by post is October 21st. Voters can register in person at polling stations until Election Day.

Voters will cast their ballots for the president, federal and state lawmakers and local officials and decide on 10 statewide ballot measures.

Sac State made history in the 2018 midterm elections by becoming the first California university with a statewide polling location on campus.

“Voting this year is critically important, not only for the presidential election, but also for the California ballot initiatives that affect all of us as California citizens,” said Elisa Trimboli, Sac State Anchor University partnership manager.

Trimboli is part of the California Secretary of State Students Vote Project, which aims to promote civic engagement among college students through voter education, registration and outreach.

Sac State and all 23 CSUs are participating in this year’s Ballot Bowl, part of the Secretary of State’s initiative. The bowl is a friendly competition in which California colleges and universities work to register the most students to vote.

The 2020 General Election Ballot Bowl involved 140 colleges across the state and 82,000 students registered to vote.

Last week, Sac State placed sixth in the Ballot Bowl among CSUs with 297 registered students.

Every vote is important, said Trimboli.

“This election is our chance to shape the future and ensure our voices are heard on the issues that affect us all,” she said.
