The worst film titles of the century

We’ve gotten so used to endless promotional cycles and IP-driven experiences with built-in fan bases that we forget that the first thing we see right before a new movie comes out is its title. There’s something artful about the film’s title, especially when it’s not already based on something else. A title is only about one to five words to indicate exactly what the audience can expect when they watch the film. You know exactly what to expect when you sit down Foreigneror pulp Fictionor Interstellaror Everything everywhere at onceand even if you haven’t seen anything other than the title, you can guess the contents and probably come across something quite similar.

Because developing a great title requires real effort, there are always times when that effort doesn’t really work. The cinema is full of attempts at gripping film titles that do the exact opposite of gripping films and are remembered above all for the great confusion they cause in everyone who sees them. This is often seen with films in large franchises with a million subtitles, but it can even happen with standalone films whose titles are only a few words long. They are simply the wrong words, in the wrong order, with the wrong aura.

Still, it’s always fun to look back at the bad movie titles of the recent past, and because we’ve already done so in a list that spans the entire history of film, we decided to take a closer look at the more modern failed attempts at making the perfect title. So here are the ten worst film titles of this century so far. There’s always room for more.
