AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Christ Community Health Services in Augusta will receive $600,000 in federal funding, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff announced Thursday.

It’s part of $7.2 million in federal funding flowing to community health centers across Georgia through the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The money will be used to establish and expand local programs that help people struggling with mental health or substance use.

“I continue to hear from local leaders, health leaders and faith leaders across the state about the need for a stronger mental health safety net and investments in substance abuse prevention and treatment,” said Ossoff, D-Ga. “I am pleased to announce that, with the bipartisan support of Republicans and Democrats, I helped secure additional investments in Georgia to support mental health and substance abuse treatment.”

Mental Health America’s “The State of Mental Health in America 2024” report found that most people with a substance use disorder in the U.S. do not receive treatment and that more than half of the youth surveyed who had mental health problems did not receive treatment .
