BOONE, N.C. – App State will host Georgia State as scheduled for its football game on Oct. 26 with kickoff at 1 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The game, whose tickets sold out in August, will be streamed live on ESPN+.

This will be the Mountaineers’ first home football game since the High Country community and western North Carolina region were hit by the effects of Hurricane Helene nearly three weeks ago.

The university reopened following Hurricane Helene on October 11 and resumed classes on October 16. During this time, the App State Disaster Relief Fund was established and more than $2 million was distributed to members of the university community experiencing hardship by Helene.

“We are working to thoughtfully, responsibly and respectfully bring back university events to Boone that are supported by students, faculty and staff, and a passionate base of alumni and others who love Appalachian State University and Western North Carolina,” interim chancellor Heather said Norris. “We are committed to ensuring that the university continues to support and sustain our community in meaningful and lasting ways.

“We have worked with the city and county to respond to the immediate needs of our community during and after Hurricane Helene, and we are committed to maintaining this partnership as we continue to advance recovery efforts and a sense of hope for the future “build” for our broader community.”

“App State football is an important part of the culture and economy of our university community, the High Country and western North Carolina region,” said Athletics Director Doug Gillin. “We are grateful to the university, city and district leadership and are committed to ensuring a safe and responsible return competition. We hope this event will further bring our community together and help support everyone recovering.”
