This could be the reason why Ryujinx and Yuzu had to die

The GameFreak leaks have revealed some interesting information about the Switch successor.

The massive GameFreak leak, which I’m still refusing to link to directly (but you can read more here), has revealed a wealth of information about everything Pokemon-related – from Beta-Mon onwards incredibly strange “fanfiction” to upcoming projects in the Pokéverse.

But the news that piqued my most interest is the following tweet below.

Centro Leaks said on Twitter (X) that the next Nintendo console will use the same ROM format as the current Switch.

While I would take this with a grain of salt, it looks like the Nintendo Switch successor will continue to use the NSP format for its games. The same format that the current handheld uses – which has been cracked to allow emulation.

This could be the reason why Ryujinx and Yuzu had to die. If the upcoming console actually uses the same ROM format, hackers would only have to crack the encryption keys and emulation would be possible again. It’s very obvious why Nintendo doesn’t want this.

On the other hand, using the same format likely means the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with all of our current Switch games – and that’s pretty good news!
