Stephen King horror film dominates Max

Stephen King’s iconic, frightening and emotional work has inspired some of the most famous films in almost every genre. Of course, Stephen King will always be associated with horror, and now Max is dominating a new horror film based on one of his most notable novels.

Of course, with Halloween fast approaching, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the film is trending at this time. Especially when horror fans are almost always in the mood for a good Stephen King story – be it on the big screen or in traditional literary form. This particular film from director Gary Dauberman does take a few liberties compared to Stephen King’s original novel, but that doesn’t seem to deter viewers from checking out the film.

In fact, it already seems to be the second biggest film about Max. You could even call the film the number one horror film on the platform, right behind a thriller in the service’s top spot. For a film that Warner Bros. initially put on hold in recent years, things seem to be doing quite well.

The Max exclusive film titled Salem’s propertyis based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It revolves around the titular city, also known as Jerusalem’s Lot, which is infiltrated by a vampire named Kurt Barlow and his human assistant. Barlow begins turning the town’s citizens into vampires and creates a small group to try to fight back against the spread of the undead.

The original novel, which is essentially a modern version of Bram Stokers Draculais often considered one of King’s greatest stories. It was popularly adapted as a miniseries in 1979 The Chainsaw Massacre in Texas Director Tobe Hooper and again as another miniseries in 2004.

This 2024 work marks the first official feature film based on the novel, and while it leaves out some things from the book, audiences generally seem satisfied with the film as a solid, standalone vampire story. Of course, it wouldn’t hurt if Warner Bros. released the director’s original (and much longer) version of the film in the future. Especially when it has worked so well so far.
