9 fall 2024 bag trends that will last through winter 2025

There’s hardly a better wardrobe investment than a handbag. Not only can a high-quality bag last for years, but the trends are also usually cyclical in nature. And This is the easiest way to upgrade your look with an item you can wear every day. Many luxury fashion houses have drawn from the archives and revived vintage versions of their best designs, proving that a good handbag never truly goes out of style.

For the Fall 2024 season, brands explored playful patterns, vintage-inspired silhouettes, functional additions and new hues. Maximum additions to bags came in a variety of forms and dominated the catwalks. There were kitschy charms, mini pocket toppers and a variety of cargo pockets for extra storage and just for fun.

Meanwhile, leopard prints, fluffy textures and understated olive green have become synonymous with “trendy autumn bags”. Extreme silhouettes like the East-West bag and the Mammut tote bag also made a name for themselves on the big catwalks.

Some highlights included Chloé’s half-moon wristlet bag, Miu Miu’s classic bowling bag (with charm attachments), and Balenciaga’s pocket-embellished Bel Air bag. And while the designer versions are a worthy investment, there are plenty of budget options that are still on trend. Shop ahead for your favorite fall fighter to see you through winter 2025 (and beyond).

Function meets fashion when it comes to multi-pocket bags for fall. Brands like Balenciaga, Chanel and Versace have spoken out and it’s time to compartmentalize your handbags. Fun additions include pockets for your credit cards or AirPods, as well as additional side pockets for all your storage needs.

Calling all Sporty Spices: The bowling bag trend will be everywhere this season. The trend is a nod to vintage from sportswear brands like Adidas and Gola, but also features luxury versions from designers like Miu Miu and Loewe. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s a girl recommendation from Gigi Hadid, Rihanna and Hailey Bieber.

While the wristlet is typically worn in the evening, the fall runways made a case for the practical daytime wristlet. Highlights included Prada’s belt bags and Chloé’s ’70s-style crescent bags. This fall, swap your clutch or crossbody bag for classic wrist candy from brands like Polene and M.Gemi.

This 1950s silhouette was ubiquitous this year and continues to stick around through the winter months. The elongated shape was seen on the catwalks of Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Versace, among others. The best thing about this serene luxury basic is that it easily doubles as an evening bag.

It’s no secret that leopard print is on the rise. The Mob Woman pattern covers jeans, coats and (of course) bags, even more so than usual. Brands like Celine and Saint Laurent are known for reinventing the sophisticated print, and this season is no exception, with the Victoire Bag by Celine and the Le 5 à 7 bag by Saint Laurent.

The era of red and burgundy is followed by the color of autumn: olive green. Almost every major runway featured a shade of the rich yet understated hue. The best thing about this burgeoning color? It can act as a new neutral and replace your favorite brown or black bag this season.

The roomy bags get even more extravagant this season with epically proportioned shoulder bags. The Mary Poppins effect has hit the runways and Coach’s new Brooklyn shoulder bag is already becoming this year’s hottest carryall. Expand your companion with a bag that doubles as a weekend backpack.

With the online enchantment of bags, shoes, phones and more, maximalism is having an accessories moment. Whether it’s doubling up on bags or attaching smaller bags to larger bags, the more the merrier when it comes to optimizing your storage and organization needs. If there isn’t enough room in your favorite mini bag, simply attach another one to it to give it more flair and function.

In the spirit of colder temperatures, it’s time to get cozy with your accessories. Opt for shearling accents or all-over fluff, like Kim Kardashian recently did, to add structure to any ensemble. This fall, channel your inner Margot Tenenbaum or Penny Lane in bags from brands like Simon Miller and Jacquemus.
