“Eden” by Ron Howard opens the Italian Film Festival in Turin

Ron Howard’s survival thriller “Eden,” starring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby and Sydney Sweeney, was shot with the director as the opening film of the Italian Film Festival in Turin.

“Eden,” about a pair of high-minded Europeans played by Law and Kirby who seek a new life on a previously uninhabited island in the Galapagos, will have its international premiere in Turin after its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September .

Landing the international release of the survival thriller with Howard alongside him is a nice coup for the festival’s new artistic director, Italian actor/director Giulio Base. The upcoming 42nd edition of Turin will take place from November 22nd to 30th.

Turin is Italy’s preeminent event for young directors and indie cinema and it is here that Matteo Garrone and Paolo Sorrentino screened their first works. The festival program will be announced on November 7th.

Base is marking the occasion with a previously announced 24-track Marlon Brando retro film celebrating the 100th birthday of the two-time Oscar winner, known for his naturalistic acting style and rebellious streak.

The Brando retro that will form the backbone of the festival includes Fred Zinneman’s 1950 drama “The Men,” the film in which Brando made his big-screen debut as a paraplegic war veteran after making a splash on Broadway as Stanley Kowalski Character in “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams.

The Torino Film Festival is hosted by the Italian National Film Museum in Turin, a cinematic sanctuary housed in the famous Mole Antonelliana dome tower, the northern city’s main landmark.
