The first free DLC for Astro Bot is available today, with more to come over the next four weeks

Team Asobi has just released the first one AstroBot DLC levels as a completely free update. And what’s even better: there will be more to come in the next few weeks.

As announced in an official PlayStation blog post by director Nicolas Doucet, it has been confirmed that the first DLC speedrun level, Building Speed, is now available and should appear in the game in the next update. In this level, you’ll use the Barkster Bulldog Bot power-up to launch Astro through crates and over precarious platforming challenges.

Additionally, Doucet also confirms that four more Speedrun Challenge levels will be released weekly over the next month. The release schedule for these is as follows:

October 17: Building Speed (that’s today!)
October 24th: Let it Slide
October 31: Spring-loaded run
November 7: Helium Heights
November 14th: Rising heat

Of course, since these are speedrun levels, the goal is to beat them as quickly as possible. To help, Team Asobi has added a new online leaderboard so you and your PlayStation friends can have fun seeing who can get through each stage the fastest.

Although you’ll probably want to take your time and smell the mechanical roses on your first foray into these levels, new bot cameos are added to each level. In Building Speed, players can expect to encounter cute bot versions of the Helldivers and EVE Starblade. Doucet teases that there will be more cameos in future levels, but remains understandably tight-lipped about who those might be.
