Lantronix introduces SmartLV, the first AI-enabled IoT Edge

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 17, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Lantronix Inc. (NASDAQ: LTRX), a global leader in computing and connectivity IoT solutions, has launched SmartLV, powered by Qualcomm® IQ-615 processor, the first AI-enabled IoT Edge Compute Cellular Gateway. This breakthrough innovation, specifically designed for low-voltage substations and distribution automation applications in next-generation smart grids, utilities and industrial sectors, will be debuted at Enlit Europe, October 22-24, 2024 in Milan, Italy.

SmartLV is designed to revolutionize real-time visibility, control and automation in the energy sector, giving distribution system operators (DSOs) the ability to manage and control energy exactly when and where it is needed. Equipped with advanced cybersecurity protocols and AI capabilities, the SmartLV ensures robust, reliable and secure operations for mission-critical applications and provides unprecedented control over low-voltage substations and distributed energy resources (DERs).

“The SmartLV Gateway is a step forward in giving utility operators critical real-time insight and control over their low-voltage substations,” said Mathi Gurusamy, Chief Strategy Officer at Lantronix. “By leveraging Qualcomm Technologies’ AI technology, this solution helps address today’s most pressing challenges at the edge of the smart grid.”

AI on the Edge: Transforming Energy Management

As demand for smarter and greener energy networks grows, the SmartLV Gateway enables distribution system operators to anticipate and respond to network conditions in real time, optimizing energy flow and ensuring stability even during peak loads. This AI-driven platform doesn’t just monitor; It enables intelligent energy control and dynamic decision making at the network edge.

“SmartLV is an example of the fusion of AI and connectivity to address critical challenges in smart grids. Qualcomm® and Lantronix enable DSOs to gain increased control and insight into the distribution network, transform the way energy is delivered and consumed, and accelerate grid transformation in Europe,” added Sebastiano Di Filippo, senior director of business development at Qualcomm Europe Inc., added.

Key features of the SmartLV gateway include:

  • Multiprotocol communication: Seamlessly integrates into existing infrastructure via conversion suites for Ethernet, serial, I/O and industrial protocols, providing flexibility between legacy and modern systems.
  • High Speed Connectivity: Future-proof with LTE and 5G-enabled high-speed cellular communications for reliable, low-latency operations.
  • Edge computing for real-time decisions: AI-powered edge computing that enables low latency analysis and split-second decision making directly at the substation.
  • Advanced cybersecurity: Equipped with Lantronix’s InfiniShield™ security framework to defend against cyber threats and ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Simplified management with Lantronix Perception™ IoT Edge platform: Provides seamless management with global mobile plans, VPN security, and an easy-to-use cloud platform to monitor and control deployments.
  • Energy control automation: Provides real-time automated control of DERs based on actual grid conditions to ensure efficient energy flow.

Innovation through long-term collaboration

The SmartLV Gateway is the latest innovation in a 15-year collaboration, combining Qualcomm Technologies’ industry-leading AI and connectivity with Lantronix’s expertise in IoT solutions for industrial and smart grid applications.

Availability

The launch of the SmartLV gateway is planned for fiscal year 2025. Some trials will begin at the end of fiscal year 2024 for select DSOs. For more information or to schedule a demo, visit Hall 5, MR10.
