Mattel has adapted its latest toy-to-feature title with a live-action project based on View-Master.

Mattel Films will collaborate with Todd Black’s Escape Artists on the project, which is being created at Sony Pictures. The film is described as a “four-quadrant family adventure film” and is based on the stereoscopic viewing device that allows users to collect 3D reels with themed images. It was first presented to the public in 1939.

Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Tony Shaw of Escape Artists are expected to produce. Kevin McKeon and Arturo Thur de Koós will oversee the title for Mattel Films.

“View-Master has long been a window to the wonders of the world, inspiring the imagination of children and adults alike,” said Black. “Working with Robbie Brenner and Mattel Films gives us the chance to honor this legacy while creating an entirely new adventure for today’s audiences.”

A View Master film was set up at MGM back in 2019.

“View-Master has inspired generations to embark on limitless adventures and offers a wealth of storytelling possibilities for this film,” said Robbie Brenner, president of Mattel Films, which backed the film last year Barbie. “We are thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Todd Black of Escape Artists to bring this Mattel franchise to life. Their creative and cinematic expertise sets the stage to bring a modern take on this beloved toy to audiences everywhere.”

Mattel is working with Escape Artists on the upcoming one Master of the Universe Live-action feature film. After years of development during which the project was distributed across multiple studios, the film landed at Amazon MGM with Nicholas Galitzine as the lead actor. Other upcoming Mattel projects include: Bob the Builder Animated film with Anthony Ramos and a Matchbox cars film by extraction Director Sam Hargrave.
