The Pioneers finish with a great victory

The Lehi High School football team ended the regular season with a stunning 38-7 victory over Pleasant Grove on Wednesday (October 16) on Senior Night. The Pioneers scored five touchdowns in the first half and gave their reserves plenty of minutes after halftime.

The teams traded punts on their first possessions. Starting from their own 15, the Lehi gridders launched a drive that included three chunk plays against junior speedster Devaughn Eks.

The first two were mid-range passes, but the third was a 61-yard touchdown run that gave the Pioneers a 7-0 lead just five minutes into the game after senior kicker Gavin Fenn added the PAT.

Almost the only positive yards the Vikings gained in the first half came from Lehi penalties. The defense conceded several tackles and lost to their overwhelming opponents.

The second score of the night came on a connection between senior quarterback Jett Niu and senior wide receiver Mays Madsen for 59 yards with 3:25 left in the opening period.

Next up was junior wide receiver legend Glasker, who extended the lead to 21-0 with a 48-yard TD throw with 8:12 left before halftime.

Pleasant Grove’s next 3-and-out gave the Pioneers a short field, and they quickly took advantage, returning the ball with the help of a 17-yard pass play picked up by junior tight end Bryton Niu and an 11th -yard throw to senior wide receiver Kyler Barger and then another for 11 yards to Madsen, who made the catch as he rolled to the ground at the 4-yard line.

From there, Eka got into the end zone through a nice hole created by the offensive line and took a 28-0 lead with 3:45 left.

The Viking offense was again only on the field for a short time and Lehi took over the PG side of the field in the 42nd minute.

Senior running back Wayde Watson added another six yards to his tally on the night, setting up a 36-yard passing touchdown for Madsen, who made a few nifty moves to evade tacklers on his way to paydirt. At halftime it was 35:0.

The Vikings managed to get a touchdown on the board in the third quarter to avoid a shutout. Fenn added a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to round out the night’s total.
