Spectrum pushes back internet restoration date in upstate counties

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Just days after Spectrum announced that internet would be restored to all accessible locations by Wednesday, they have pushed back the restoration date for upstate counties.

After Hurricane Helene, more than 300 miles of network were damaged and 395,000 customers were knocked offline, according to Spectrum.

“Some repairs are taking longer than we initially expected due to the significant damage, time to gain safe access to the most affected areas and the need to return to areas where construction is underway to carry out repairs “Spectrum said in a report statement. “We communicate directly with these customers and provide them with an updated estimated completion date based on their specific locations.”

Spectrum said it has restored service to 90 percent of affected customers in South Carolina and is expected to complete the restoration by Monday, October 21. They previously stated that service was expected to be restored in all accessible areas by October 16th.

Below is the latest information on the outage, released at 4 p.m. Wednesday:

COUNTY PERCENT RECOVERED CUSTOMERS OFFLINE APPRECIATE RESTORATION
ANDERSON 93% 3,553 OCT. 21
GREENVILLE 92% 14,557 OCT. 21
LAURENS 88% 1,272 OCT. 18
PICKENS 94% 1,558 OCT. 21
SPARTANBURG 88% 10,410 OCT. 20

“If a customer’s service is not restored by October 21, we ask that they notify us so we can address any remaining issues,” a Spectrum spokesperson said. “In addition, if a customer becomes aware of a defective cable wire, we ask that they report it to Spectrum.net.”

In North Carolina, Spectrum said service is expected to be restored in all but three counties by Oct. 19. Internet is expected to be restored to accessible homes in Buncombe, McDowell and Polk counties by Monday, October 21st.
