City opens discussion about possible leisure and water center

Seguin invited people to take part in the planning

(Seguin) – The city is informing Seguin residents of a community meeting to discuss the creation of a public recreation and aquatic facility.

The city is currently working with consultants on a feasibility study that will examine the possibility of building a community recreation center that could include swimming pools and many other indoor and outdoor amenities.

Parks and Recreation Director Jack Jones announced plans for the meeting during Tuesday’s Seguin City Council meeting. Jones says the public meeting will be held in two weeks and they want as many people to attend as possible. This will be an opportunity for people to share their vision for a new leisure centre.

“We will be holding a community meeting at Seguin Coliseum two weeks from now at 6 p.m. We’ll have some snacks. We will be sending our consultants to the city to have a discussion about whether a recreation center should be part of the future of the City of Seguin.

Your feedback would be crucial in deciding whether a leisure center is needed and if so, what experiences are most wanted by the community, e.g. “such as a fitness room, gymnasium, sports facilities, classrooms, team room, indoor walking track, etc,” Jones said.

Jones says community feedback is a big part of the feasibility study. He says that’s one of the reasons they want everyone to attend this important community meeting on October 29th.

“Our consultants from Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects and PROS Consulting would be in town to lead the community discussion. Another personal meeting from today in two weeks on Tuesday, October 29th, 6 p.m. It starts at six o’clock, maybe it’s finished at seven o’clock. We’ll see how long it takes and how many people there are. With the new technology in the Colosseum, we are thinking about doing this as a live stream. If we manage to do a livestream, maybe we can get live feedback during the conversation. “So this in-person meeting is about getting feedback on the spot,” Jones said.

The city hired Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects to assist with this process. The company also worked with the city of New Braunfels in 2014, assisting in the process that eventually led to the popular Das Rec facility in New Braunfels.

The feasibility study will examine all options and provide the City of Seguin with all the information it needs to make a decision about the future of the project. Community input will also help shape this vision.

The Community Recreation and Aquatics Center public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29th at 6 p.m. at Seguin Coliseum.
