Igari AKA Hangover Makeup Trend

Igari AKA Hangover Makeup Trend

If you’ve been scrolling through Instagram or Pinterest lately, you’ve probably noticed a new beauty trend appearing everywhere – Igari makeup! Or, as it is more charmingly called, “hangover makeup” (but in the cutest, most laid-back way possible). It’s a perfect mix of rosy, youthful and effortlessly enchanting that instantly hooked me. Of course I had to try it myself. After all, my feed was full of flawless, flushed cheeks and I was convinced this trend was practically made for anyone who loves that fresh, dewy glow. So, let’s break it down and see why everyone (including me) is already obsessed!

What is Igari’s makeup trend?

Hailing from Japan, Igari makeup will give you a fresh, radiant look that will make you look like you’ve just spent a sun-soaked day outside or danced the night away (minus the actual hangover, of course). The magic lies in its ability to give your face a natural, rosy glow – like you’ve just worked out or perhaps giggled your way through a happy hour with friends. What sets Igari apart from other trends is the unique placement of the blush. Unlike the typical “apples of the cheeks” application, Igari blusher is swept under the eyes and across the cheeks, creating a youthful, almost doll-like effect. And believe me, it’s all over social media for a reason. This trend is perfect for those of us who want to look awake and alert even on days when we’d rather sleep five more times.

How to Recreate the Igari Look

The beauty of Igari makeup is that it is as simple as it is effective. It’s not about applying multiple layers of foundation or wearing a complicated cat-eye effect; It’s all about blush, shine and keeping things soft and minimal.

Step 1: Prepare your face

The Igari look starts with a solid base. Start with a light cleanse to leave your skin feeling fresh and clean. Follow with a hydrating serum and a good dose of moisturizer to ensure your skin is plumper. If you want your skin to really glow, go for lightweight formulas. Instead of going for a full-coverage foundation, try something a little more sheer, like a skin tint. This gives you a “barely there” finish that complements the natural, smoothed look. Bonus points if you choose a formula with SPF to protect your skin while you glow.

Step 2: Blush like a pro

You should choose a cream or liquid blush in a soft pink or peach tone – not too intense. The key is placement. Instead of sweeping the blush across the cheekbones, apply it under the eyes and on the cheeks, blending it toward the temples. Your goal is a fresh, innocent look that makes it seem like you’ve just come in from the cold or have been laughing for a few hours. To keep it looking natural, build up the color gradually, just enough to give your skin that fresh, “I just woke up like this” feeling. For a seamless finish, lightly apply a powder blush from the same color family to soften any edges. This means the blusher melts into the skin and lasts all day. You can also apply a little blush to the bridge of your nose for a sweet, flushed finish. It completes the entire look!

Step 3: Keep the eyes and lips simple

Now that you have applied the blush, the rest of your makeup should be kept subtle. For the eyes, forget about bold eyeliners or heavy shadows. Instead, take a fluffy brush (you can even reuse the brush you used for your blush) and sweep a touch of color across your eyelids for a soft, monochromatic look. For your lips, a moisturizing balm or clear gloss will do the trick.

Step 4: Fix the look without losing the shine

To keep your Igari makeup looking fresh all day long, set your T-zone with a slightly translucent powder. Just be careful not to sprinkle it on your cheeks—you don’t want to dull your glow. The goal is to keep the dewy finish alive while keeping shine in check where it counts.

It’s the perfect trend for anyone who wants to convey that “I just had the best day ever” vibe without a lot of effort.
