The elegant two-tone kitchen cabinet trend that will make your space stand out

Have you looked at hundreds of ideas for remodeling your kitchen? Redesigning your kitchen can be a fun opportunity to try out different aesthetics and create a space that you’ll really enjoy—and this trend is sure to pique your interest. For this newer concept, designers paint the kitchen cabinets two different colors to create a beautiful look that highlights the room. House Digest spoke exclusively with Veronica Solomon, head designer at Casa Vilora Interiors, to learn more about this trend and how you can implement it in your own home.

“I really love the trend and to me it’s more of a timeless design feature than a trend,” Solomon shared. If you like the design, it can be a great change for your kitchen. And according to Solomon, the design of the cabinet doesn’t matter much when it comes to painting the kitchen cabinets two different colors. “I don’t think cabinet style is that important, but I much prefer to keep the lines clean and not overly ornate,” Solomon explained.

How to choose your two-tone cabinet colors

If you’ve fallen in love with the two-tone design, choosing the right color can be a challenge. How do designers choose the perfect shade? House Digest spoke exclusively with Solomon about what colors she thinks work well in a two-tone kitchen design.

“Great combinations can include wood tones mixed with warm whites or white with a shade of blue like teal, navy or even green,” Solomon said. In one of her recent designs, she even used pink and purple for the kitchen cabinets. “Black and white (tuxedo style) is also great, but needs to be chosen carefully so as not to be too stark and contrasting,” she added. If you’re worried about choosing colors, bring a few samples home or start by painting a few samples in the kitchen and looking at them in different lighting to decide what you like best.

Is the trend worth it?

It often seems like there’s a new trend every day, with some popular design trends that can increase your home’s property value. If you don’t plan on selling any time soon, it’s also important that you enjoy your home. House Digest spoke exclusively with Solomon about her thoughts on the trend. “Don’t do it because it’s a trend,” Solomon said. “Do it because you love it and want to express your own style.” And if you’re absolutely in love with the trend, you don’t have to use just two colors. Solomon has designed tri-color kitchens that are bold and beautiful.

But if this trend isn’t your style, that’s okay too. Just because something is trendy doesn’t mean it’s worth creating in your own kitchen. There are many kitchen cabinet trends that are expected to skyrocket in 2025.
