The video shows a man stealing an $849 lawn mower from Janney’s at Secor and Central

The video shows a man stealing an 9 lawn mower from Janney’s at Secor and Central

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Video from the fenced area of Janney’s Service Center shows a man wearing a face mask spying on the lawnmowers.

He tries to pull one off the shelf, but finds that it is tied down with a cable. After going out and back in twice and appearing to speak to an employee, he tries again to loosen a lawn mower and is successful.

He then casually walks away with the $849 mower without paying.

“You know, you feel really hurt, yeah,” owner Tim Janney said.

Janney said his family business has operated at the intersection of Secor and Alexis in Toledo since 1924. In recent years, he said, such thefts have increased.

“You have an insurance deductible. If you have had previous claims your rate will be increased or canceled and we have had previous claims. This happens to us a lot in one way or another when people jump over our fence at the back. We had a lot of problems,” Janney said.

Since the theft occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Janney said his employees replaced the display and added additional cables for security reasons. However, Janney added that the theft was still painful.

“It’s very disgusting. It’s hurtful. You know, you work your tail off. My people, they all work very hard here and then you get ripped off like that and you can’t make it up to them. It’s gone. It’s money that’s gone,” Janney continued.

He hopes someone recognizes the man in the video or the driver of the Chevy Trailblazer who drove off with the mower on the back and the tailgate still open.
