Man resorts to motorcycle theft after losing money in an online game

The accused has been identified as Abhay Suresh Kharde of Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, who allegedly lost ₹7-8 lakh while playing online games and stole bikes to make easy money, police said

Chakan police on Saturday nabbed a motorcycle theft gang, arrested a 23-year-old Bachelor of Arts (BA) student for theft and recovered 18 stolen motorcycles worth around `100,000 26 lakh from him and his associates.

The accused has been identified as Abhay Suresh Kharde of Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, who allegedly lost He lost around Rs 7-8 lakh while playing online games and stole bikes to earn easy money, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Shivaji Pawar said, “The accused claimed that he lost money while playing online games. To make easy money, he watched online videos about stealing high-end motorcycles and committed the theft.”

According to Pawar, the accused is a recorded offender and is already involved in a similar case reported in Ahmednagar district.

Police said that the police team analyzed 100-150 CCTV cameras while investigating a motorcycle theft case reported at Chakan police station. During investigation, police came to know that stolen motorcycles were being diverted to Sangamner in Ahmednagar district.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad police along with informants from Sangamner identified some suspects involved in motorcycle thefts and accordingly laid a trap and arrested Kharde.

During interrogation, police identified and arrested Ravindra Nivrutti Ghavane, 23, Subham Balasaheb Kale, 24, both from Kopargaon in Ahmednagar district, Yash Nandkumar Thutte, 22, and Prem Bhaidas Devere, 20, both from Nashik, as middlemen for the sale worked bicycles.
