MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – As subfreezing temperatures began Wednesday morning, the growing season has officially come to an end in southern Wisconsin. Frost and freeze warnings will not be issued again until the growing season begins again next spring. Despite the cold start to the week, a strong warming trend is expected by the end of the week. Dry weather and gradually rising temperatures are expected this weekend and early next week. Due to strong winds and low humidity, there is an increased fire danger in areas west of Madison Thursday afternoon for everyone as the weekend approaches. It’s going to be a great weekend to discover fall colors throughout the state of Wisconsin!

What’s next…

Tonight the sky will remain clear, but the wind will shift to the southwest. This will take us into the mid 30s with areas of frost possible. Thursday will be warm, dry and windy, with highs reaching 60 degrees. Wind gusts can reach up to 25 MPH and humidity will drop to around 25%. This means there is an increased fire danger in parts of southwest and south-central Wisconsin. Friday will be a little warmer, with highs in the upper 60s and sunny skies, but not as windy.

Looking ahead…

Temperatures will continue to rise as we head into the weekend, reaching the low 70s on Saturday and the mid 70s on Sunday. Expect more clouds but still dry conditions. Early next week, a weather system moving in from the southwest will bring more clouds and a small chance of showers on Tuesday. Highs will remain above average, in the upper 60s to mid 70s.
