Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf is reportedly open to selling a team that is coming off a historically poor season

CHICAGO (WLS) – Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf is open to selling the team, The Athletic reported Wednesday.

The New York Times also reported that the 88-year-old owner was in talks with a group to potentially do so.

The White Sox are planning to build a new stadium in Chicago’s South Loop, but are coming off a historically poor season. They posted a 41-121 record that year, breaking the modern major league record for most losses in a season. They had the majors’ worst batting average of .221 and an on-base percentage of .278 and finished last with 507 runs, 133 home runs and 485 RBIs.

Reinsdorf purchased his share of the Sox in 1981 and used it to lead the creation of Guaranteed Rate Field.

ABC7 has reached out to the White Sox for comment but has not yet heard back.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
