BSU’s College of Business hosts its first annual fundraiser

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – A fundraiser was held tonight to raise money for Bluefield State University’s W. Paul Cole, Jr. College of Business.

The community turned out in force at the first annual Big Blue Biz Bash at Club on the Green in Bluefield to show their support and listen to students share the opportunities they had experienced while attending the school.

Funds raised will go toward “expanding scholarship opportunities, research and technology, including an immersive business simulation suite that mimics real-world economic conditions and customer behavior.”

Dr. Darrin Martin, interim president of Bluefield State University, says the college’s connection to the community is important to the institution’s success.

“We are part of the community and we understand our value and ability to produce the next leaders in the community,” Martin said. “It is important for us to share and highlight our successes, but also to ask the community how we can better serve them.”

The college was named after community leader W. Paul Cole Jr., who was Bluefield’s longest-serving mayor.
