Coroner: No foul play is suspected in Alto’s death

The Habersham County Coroner’s Office and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a person was found dead near Alto on Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said the deceased person was found by a family member at a residence on the Mt. Zion Road Connector shortly after 3 p.m.

“Although no crime is suspected at this time, the body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation State Crime Lab in Decatur for examination,” McEntire said. “No further details will be released at this time pending the outcome of this investigation and family members are notified.”

McEntire said the coroner’s thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time.

Police officers were on site shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16th and cordoned off the crime scene.

Moore said at the time that the sheriff’s office had asked the GBI to assist in the investigation. That request was withdrawn before state investigators arrived.
