Cybersecurity in elections, AI in healthcare: the question of a trend

On today’s episode of Asking for a Trend, host Josh Lipton breaks down some of the biggest stories and key themes from the trading day.

Arctic Wolf today released its new Human Risk Report, which analyzes some of the biggest cybersecurity risks facing organizations. Nick Schneider, president and CEO of Arctic Wolf, calls the election β€œan event that is generating a lot of interest from bad actors.” He explains: “I think during an election year or any time there is an event that has significant public interest, you will see increased interest and activity from bad actors, both against companies and against individuals.” And where these two meet or overlap, there is also additional risk for individual organizations.”

BJ Schaknowski, CEO of symplr, discusses the state of the healthcare industry as AI becomes more prevalent. Schaknowski explains that symplr helps hospitals become more productive by assisting with tasks related to compliance, quality and safety. He notes that these tasks are “highly fragmented” in hospitals and “counteract the productivity of critical healthcare workers who are supposed to be providing care, not sitting in front of a laptop and entering data.” Schaknowski notes that nurses spend about three to five hours a day in front of a computer screen, while they can instead focus on mentoring new nurses and spend more time caring for patients.

Jared Blikre, Yahoo’s financial data and markets editor, shares some of his key takeaways from the trading day, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) closed at a record high and the volatility index (^VIX) fell just below 20.

Big Tech’s AI capital spending is rising through the final quarter of 2024. Yahoo Finance host Julie Hyman examines investments from hyperscalers Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL), Microsoft (MSFT), and Meta Platforms (META). into generative AI and data centers, adding even more fuel to Nvidia’s (NVDA) pictorial AI chip fire.

Finally, Josh Lipton examines some of the stocks moving the most in after-hours trading: Lucid (LCID), Kinder Morgan (KMI), and Alcoa (AA).
