Error allowing downloads, user report

Apple’s App Store experienced technical issues on Tuesday as thousands of users reported problems accessing the service.

According to location monitoring service Downdetector, more than 3,500 bug reports had been logged from users as of 11:37 a.m. ET. Attempts to download apps were unsuccessful for many users, although app updates worked properly, according to social media posts.

Apple’s system status page indicated that the App Store was functioning normally, but reported that the Subscription Purchase service was down as of 11:02 a.m. “Some users are affected,” Apple’s website says. “Users may not be able to log in.”

The App Store issues appeared to be resolved within an hour: user error reports on Downdetector had decreased to negligible levels by midday ET.

Apple’s App Store is a key part of the tech giant’s services business segment, which continued to drive record quarterly revenue. In 2022, the App Store facilitated $1.1 trillion in developer billings and sales, the company said, citing an independent study by economists at Analysis Group. More than 90% of billings and revenue generated through the App Store flow “exclusively to developers and companies of all sizes – with no commission paid to Apple,” the company said.
