New York Jets rookie compares recent moves to video game “franchise” mode

The New York Jets have created a never-ending news cycle for their fans and the media since returning from London following their loss to Minnesota.

The Jets have fired their head coach. The owner asked for his defensive end to report. The same defensive end lost his agent and hired another one. The interim coach, who also happens to be the defensive coordinator, demoted the offensive coordinator and promoted the passing game coordinator.

In the midst of all this, the Jets played one game and lost 23-20 to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

Then, just when you thought things might be calming down a bit, the Jets reportedly gave their holdout pass rusher’s agent permission to shop him to other teams and then traded him for the wide receiver their four-time NFL star MVP quarterback had long coveted.

It’s enough to make it seem like it’s all a simulation. Or a video game.

You might be thinking it, but a Jets rookie took to social media to say it after the Davante Adams deal was finalized.

“I feel like I’m in a crazy franchise.”

However, that’s a little more than Allen expected when the Jets selected him in the fourth round out of Wisconsin in April.

He was named All-Big Ten three times with the Badgers. However, the closest he came to professional football was going to Green Bay Packers games and watching his teammate Aaron Rodgers. Allen grew up in Fond du Lac and idolized the four-time NFL MVP. So playing with him is a kind of journey.

It was Rodgers who gave Allen the first touchdown of his career in Week 2. He went down in NFL history. Allen is not yet 21 years old. At the time of scoring, he was the youngest player to score an offensive touchdown in the NFL since 1950 at 20 years, 239 days, according to ESPN.

Allen was primarily used as a backup to starter Breece Hall. Allen had two extremely productive games earlier this season, rushing for a total of 88 yards in New York’s two wins so far.

Against Buffalo, he officially only ran three times for eight yards. But a touchdown run was wiped out by a holding penalty.

This season, he rushed for 151 yards on 35 carries and a touchdown, as well as eight receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown.
